Reach God By Cell

Universal may have a suit on their hands as they for some unknown reason did not use the old standby "555" phone prefix for God's phone number in Jim Carrey's "Bruce Almighty". Therefore, a couple of poor saps are getting calls from people asking for God and hanging up. Check out the full story here.

I have included the story below in case the story is ever moved or deleted from The Trib's website. Please try the link above first as it is there story.

Phone number in 'Bruce Almighty' not answer to woman's prayers

pet-trwwwde

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (AP) - Dawn Jenkins isn't in the new Jim Carrey comedy ''Bruce Almighty.''

Her phone number, however, is - and that's a problem for the Pinellas Park glassmaker.

In the film, the nation's top movie over the weekend, Carrey stars as a regular guy who receives the powers of God (played by Morgan Freeman) after complaining too much about life.

God tries to reach Bruce Nolan, Carrey's character, by repeatedly leaving a phone number on his pager. But instead of the usual 555 prefix most television shows and films use in phone numbers, God's number is a common exchange - too common for Jenkins' liking. It's her cell phone number.

She's been getting about 20 calls per hour, with callers asking for God before hanging up.

''What am I to do?'' Jenkins wrote on an Internet forum for visual artists. ''I e-mailed Universal Studios about this issue. ... I think I want payment.''

Reached by telephone, Jenkins declined further comment, saying only she wants to hire an attorney. Officials from Universal Studios did not return telephone calls Monday.

Jenkins isn't alone in her plight. The number on Carrey's character's pager also matches the one to a a South Carolina woman who declined to give her name, but said she's been ''getting aggravated to death'' by the incessant calling.

It also matches the number for a call center to a group of five Colorado talk-radio stations. Ron Nickel, senior vice president for the Radio Colorado Network, was worried what would happen Tuesday, the first regular office workday since the movie's release.

''My receptionist is going to go crazy,'' Nickel said.

The network includes KWYD in Colorado Springs, KLMO in Longmont, KSKE in Vail, KDMN in Buena Vista and an FM station in Gunnison whose call letters were not listed on the network's Web site.

I was perusing my server logs when I came across a military address. Syl, is that you?! Welcome, man! Send a few pics of you and the family so those that don't know you can put a face to the name.

BTW everyone, Syl is Kris, Tiff, and my cousin. He is Uncle Walter's (mom's brother) son.

The Incredible Shrinking Baby

Can you guys believe Kayla is down to 5 pounds, 13 ounces now? Yikes! One of the nurses said that babies can lose up to 10% of their bodyweight after birth. If you have a linebacker like Peyton at 9lbs, you don't sweat a little weight loss, but when your kid is barely a nickel.....

Well, Kayla seems to be doing well, so we're not sweating it.

Visitors

Judy's pharmacy supervisor from her previous store stopped by yesterday. She's the one that threw Judy the babyshower. It was good to see her.

Uncle Joe stopped by twice yesterday as he works about 1/8 of a mile from the hospital. Thanks for letting the dogs in yesterday, man. How was Bruce Almighty?

Two of Judy's coworkers said they should be by sometime today.

Judy's mom was supposed to fly out to see us on June 6. However, she moved her flight up, and should be in town tomorrow.

My mom said she'll try to visit next Friday.

Woohoo!

Thanks Everyone

Kayla, Mom, and I want to thank everyone for their prayers and support throughout our pregnancy. I thanked everyone in the comments section of the "Kayla Pics" post, but didn't know if you guys read the comments or not.

What would life be without family and friends to share it with? Thanks for being excited and happy for us and throwing all that positive energy our way.

Mom, Pop, and Kayla's Status, Day 3

Kayla's pediatrician examined her today and said she looked great, just slightly jaundiced. As a result, they are going to conduct a blood test.

Kayla also had a hearing test today which she passed.

Mom is feeling much better. She's eating, and able to get around better. Judy achieved a personal best today as she was able to complete a walk around the perimeter of our ward.

Dad is just tired. Last night, I suggested that we put Kayla in the cottage, so we could get some sleep. However mom wanted the Jones family to spend their first night together. I of course acquiesced despite the fact that I was going to be the one to have to get up if Kayla got fussy.

Well, I don't think it took 10 minutes before Kayla put Dad to work. She had been extremely gassy throughout the day and it continued into the night. I spent the next 2+ hours burping and comforting my princess. It was all good though. Kayla and I actually had a good time. BTW, justice was done as Kayla's crying occasionally woke Judy. In fact Judy ended up having to nurse Kayla at the end of my "shift" about 4:15 am. Muhahaha!!!

Delivery Journal

DISCLAIMER: I'm dead tired, so blame fatigue for any misspellings, run-on or fragmented sentences, or incoherence in the posts that I'll be writing the next couple of days :).

That being said...

Judy's water broke about 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 21. We rushed home, packed our bags, and arrived at Desert Samaritan about 3:00 pm. We were admitted after one of the nurses verified that Judy's water had indeed broken.

It was smooth sailing until about 8:45 pm when labor pains got a little tougher. The pain increased exponentially over the next couple of hours. Judy was only about 3 cm dialated when our nurse told us that we could expect to achieve about 1 cm dialation per hour after we hit 5 cm. But, but, ... we still had 2 more to go to even get to 5!!! Judy was a trooper and held out a while longer before finally deciding on the epidural. I can't say it enough what a trooper Judy was! I love you, babe and you were awesome! It's hard to see someone you love in that much pain, and she held out a long time.

We slept on and off throughout the night. About 5:30am she was almost fully dialated. The next several hours became sort of scary as Kayla's heartbeat pattern showed a lot of what the nurse referred to as "variability" as evidenced by one of the monitors hooked up to Judy's stomach. Later, Judy developed a temperature. Judy wasn't making any progress toward dialating any further, so the nurse wanted to continue administering the drugs to help with the contractions. However, she believed that it was these very drugs that were at least in part at fault for Kayla's erratic heartbeat as the contractions the drugs produced were so stressful and traumatic for Kayla. Talk about your catch-22's. Nurse Carol decided to take Judy off the drugs which helped Kayla out a bunch.

Judy's doctor showed up about 10 am. Judy had not made any progress in 4.5 hours, so he recommended cesarean. His reasoning about the lack of progress in dilation coupled with Judy's fever made complete sense to us, so we agreed without hesitation.

Not too long after that our Kayla was born. She was born with a head full of hair and the most oblong head you could imagine! And you know what? She's gorgeous...oblong head and all :). Apparently Kayla had been making her way down the birth canal and got stuck, part due to Judy not being completely dialated and part due to the umbilical cord being wrapped twice around Kayla! The umbilical cord issue may also be to blame for Kayla's heart patterns.

Anyway, she's doing well now, praise God.

E3 2003

The Electronic Entertainment Expo was last week. E3 gives companies a chance to show off their latest wares and generate interest and hype for upcoming products. I look forward to E3 every year because game companies usually announce new titles or provide screenshots and trailers on new or upcoming games. My excitement was well-founded this year as additional information was released about 4 dope sequels that are scheduled for release within the next year: Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Homeworld 2, and Deus Ex: Invisible War. Click on the pictures below to download the respective trailers.

Note: Removed trailers on 12/30/04. --trey

Happy Birthday, Eli

My buddy, Jerome and his wife threw a birthday party for their son Eli yesterday. It was a good time. I forgot how excited kids get to open presents. It was funny to see Eli rip through all that wrapping paper.

While the kids played hide and go seek, the men played horse on Rome's electronic shoot and return basketball set.
