1. don't let your husband get sick with the flu.
2. don't let your husband pass his germs to you.
3. or the kids.
4. don't try to get your floors redone at the same time.
5. don't think staying in a hotel for a night will make you feel better.
thanks everyone for the emails. sorry. we are have been down for the count, but will return to regular scheduled programming after this brief interruption.
even when you don't think they are.
kayla had put a doll under her dress because she likes to pretend she's pregnant. so i told her that i wanted to take a picture of her.
k: no, don't take a picture of me. i look horrible.
m: what?!?! why do you say that?
k: my stomach is all big.
of course, she got this from yours truly. but, i have to say, i don't know too many people who happily jump in front of a camera for a close-up. most will step aside or cover their face or opt for the back row. why do we, in general, do that? do we all have issues with self-image?
in the past year or so, i've tried to take pictures of myself. i admit, i'm not that happy with the way i look in those pictures. but, i'm realizing that months or years from now, i might like remembering what i was doing on a certain day, what i was wearing, what my hair looked like. and maybe, when i'm older and even when i'm gone, my kids will want to look at them too, and remember me.
anyways, i hope that next time someone wants to take your picture, you will happily jump in and smile.
as much as i complained about sharing my bed and helping them to sleep, on days like today, i really, really miss those days. seems like yesterday. time just goes so fast. not sure how much longer i will be able to hold him like this, or how much longer he'll let me.
the kids were outside helping dad with some yard work. all of a sudden, she busts through the garage door.
mom: what's the matter?
k: dad said i'm one of the guys.
she shows me her dirty hands.
mom: yeah, so? what's the matter?
k: i'm not a guy. i'm a woman.
she washes her hands, jumps down from the stool, and puts her hands on her hips.
k: there. now, i'm a woman again. everything's under control.
she's a fiesty one, alright.
i couldn't pick just one from today. enjoy!
tom and kayla.
a family picture, taken with the timer, outside the ice cream shop. i think i'm going to start using that timer more often.
i'm partial to this one, because of the interaction between tom and thomas and then just how kayla is standing, eating her ice cream. also, loved how the bicycle rack was right there for some interest. this is one of my all time favorites.
hope your sunday was as wonderful!
ETA: i was sitting here thinking about how that last picture is probably my most favorite picture i've taken on this project so far. just wondering, what has been your favorite? shoot me an email and let me know which one you like and why. i'd love to know!
we use a little wall space near our kitchen table to display their many works of art.
the family portrait. my most favorite piece.
on a related note, we went looking at furniture today and we lost dad and thomas. as we went around looking, kayla said, "we just have to look for a big, round head."
sending all our family and friends, both near and far, all our love.
on our way to preschool today
kayla: why are you driving so fast?
me: am i?...oh, i guess i'm just trying to keep up with the other cars.
kayla: you don't have to be like them. i mean, what if they're going so fast and they go past a red light, are you going to go past the red light too?
-------
i just hate it when my kids have to parent me :)
i just wanted to send out birthday wishes to both my dad and my brother, tommy, today. i cannot believe i don't have a decent, clear picture of either one of them. that means that next time i see them i'll have to get all paparazzi on them :)
wishing both of you all good things on your birthday and throughout the year. love you both.
thomas: why are you making me wear this?
mom: thomas, please, keep it on for 2 seconds so i can get a picture. i'll give you a cookie later...
thomas: (thinking to himself - pathetic..she thinks she can dress me up like a doll and insult me with a bribe...insert roll of the eyes here)
mom: what about 3 cookies?
she is really into the show "American Gladiators." today, she made her own little obstacle course with pillows, couch cushions, and stools. when she was finished, she told her daddy that since she won, now she was going to be the gladiator.
daddy: what is going to be your gladiator name? how about "bone crusher" or "gladiator girl"?
kayla: no, i want to be "strong, healthy woman".
you go, girl.
after school, we had this conversation:
i got in trouble with miss o'donnell today. ( her teacher )
what happened?
she told me to get the cactus paper, but i got the other papers.
okay, where was the cactus paper?
in my cubbie.
where were the other papers?
in my cubbie.
did she yell at you?
no.
did she put you in the corner?
no.
did she give you a time-out?
no.
okay, were you talking to your friends?
no.
were you not paying attention?
i was paying attention. i just didn't bring the cactus paper.
okay, how did you get in trouble?
miss o'donnell said, kay-la ( in an exasperated voice) , can you please get your cactus paper?
that doesn't sound like she was mad.
well, it does to me.
--------------------------------------
let me first say, that i think miss o'donnell is a fine teacher. secondly, i'm not sure how exasperated she really sounded. with that being said, i think, your view of how others see you, really does have a lot of influence on how you see yourself. this is especially true when you're only 4 years old.
when i told one of my co-workers that i took away tv time from the kids last week, she thought i was being too harsh. then after i told her that tom wouldn't be able to watch tv either, she told me that if she were tom, she'd divorce me. she was kidding...i think.
but, still, i've been feeling a little bit like the bad guy lately, so today i tried to ease my guilty conscience by letting the kids have a backyardigans marathon ( not really marathon, but a few shows in a row - i'm not feeling that guilty ;) ) with blankets and pillows and snacks.
see, i'm really not that awful :)
this week's goal is to back up all my pictures from the last month. ( the pictures will still be on the site. just look in the archives of that month to view all previous posts. ) if any of you are interested in having some pictures on disk, i'll be happy to make a copy for you. i can give it to you the next time i see you or mail them out to you. email me if you're interested.
thanks for looking!
today, he told me he was bringing his bible into the potty.
is this a guy thing?
whenever he puts them on, he says, "cooool."
he probably needs them for all the bling his sister likes to wear : )
because they didn't stay in their beds last night, they got no tv time today.
kayla: "can we watch tv when dad comes home?"
me: "no. if daddy watches tv, then you guys will want to watch something. i already told dad that he can't watch tv either."
kayla: "well, at least things can't get any worse."
