i thought it was going to bypass him, but the flu has hit him too. poor guy.
m: your voice sounds funny. do you have a frog in your throat?
t: no, a dinosaur in my mouth.
when she went back to school the other day, she told me that she was on the playground with one of her girlfriends. every time that the alex scoundrel walked by, k would say, " hi alex." by the 5th time, he responded to her by saying, " okay, i'm going to have to marry you."
anyone whose been cooped up in the house, involuntarily, yearns to be outside, even if it's 120 degrees out.
aug 22 - day 235
she stayed home from school again on friday. i initially thought i could have let her go to school since she was feeling well enough to do her hair, put on jewelry, and do some scrapbooking. but it didn't take long before she was winded. unfortunately, she's still not 100%, so she'll stay home from school again on monday.
aug 23 - day 236
i gushed over how much i loved the carrot cake that our friends gave tom for his birthday that they bought the same cake for my birthday. let me tell you, it is as good now as it was then. see, how much thomas is enjoying it? would you believe me if i told you that he single handedly ate almost the whole cake in 3 days?
sigh. i didn't think i could fool you. i'm going to have to restart my diet tomorrow.
aug 24 - day 237
i received a lovely plant with beautiful flowers from my good friend yesterday and another arrangement from my mom and brothers today. i love them. i just wanted to thank everyone for the calls and wishes for my birthday. i really appreciate you all thinking of me.
which is funny, because most times, i don't understand exactly what he's saying either.
we chose to send k to a "traditional school." it is in the public school system, but it stresses a "back to the basics" curriculum. so far, i have been very pleased.
but ( and you knew it was coming ) the main issue i have with her school, or for all the schools in the district, is the lack of arts. in her school, she does have music, physical education, library, and computers. but no "official" art class. that really, really bothers me.
i'm looking into some art classes offered by a local art studio that i'd like to send her to. in the meantime, she's taken a liking to scrapbooking with me and here's her album that she is really proud of.
i asked him how sunday school was.
t: somebody not blow her nose.
m: was her nose dripping?
t: i said BLECH ( as he sticks out his tongue )
m: did she get a tissue?
t: the teacher blow her nose.
m: was it you?
t: no, not me. somebody not blow her nose. BLECH.
she finished this little pillow a couple of weeks ago. she was so proud. i've got some other little sewing projects to do, but will probably wait until fall break to start on those.
it makes me kinda chuckle when she comes home from school, tears off her uniform, and plays dress up.
he's been playing with his noah's ark toys for the past few days. today, i walked by and saw this.
all the animals are with their mate and they are all eating. isn't it amazing the things they figure out all on their own?
later, as we were getting ready for bed, he wanted dad to change out his broken light bulb. i told him that dad would need a ladder to reach it and that it was too dark outside.
t: why (did) God turn the light off?
m: because it's bedtime and He wants you to go to sleep.
t: (i) need to wait (until) God comes out of His house to turn the light on.
it's taken a couple of weeks but i think she's finally settling in and finding her groove at school. i can't wait to share some of her stories from class.
i've had to recruit a rookie to help me with laundry, since my other worker decided she wanted to better herself and go to school.
why i need a big scrapbook room.
the kids need a place where they can sit and spread out and scrap with me. by making them work on such a small space, it's inhibiting their creativity.
i'm just thinking about the kids.
i have him take quiet time after lunch every day. you know, because he needs a break...from me. so when i call him for lunch, he starts in on how he doesn't want to eat lunch and he doesn't want quiet time and he wants to watch dora and he whines and he cries and he'll go on and on.
until i give in, which i don't do. because that would mean i spoil him and let him get away with everything and i don't keep him on a schedule and i'm teaching him that he can pitch a fit to get what he wants.
okay, maybe i gave in once...er, maybe twice...okay, definitely not more than 10 times. i'm sure about that...maybe.
;)
the other day, she came home and announced she had a boyfriend, named Alex. today, she looked smitten and said,
"mommy, i turned around and i saw alex looking at me. why was he watching me?"
i think i'm going to have tom pick her up from school tomorrow and have a little "chat" with this little alex scoundrel.
:)
the other day, while kayla was in school, he wanted to watch a movie. he had to take kayla's Cinderella dvd out of the player, and said:
" i don't want to watch this movie. it's a princess movie. it's a girl movie. "
"mommy, when you do homework, you have to use a pencil, not a marker and not a crayon."
"oh, okay. what if your homework has coloring?"
"then you can use crayons. but when you are writing, you have to use a pencil."
"okay, fine."
"that's what my teacher said. do you want me to listen to my teacher?"
"of course. if that's the way she wants you to do it, then that's what you have to do."
"yeah, she's a little bossy."
"well, she has to be the boss of all the kids in the class."
"but when i'm at home, can i still use markers?"
the number of pictures i took in the 10 days i was away from my slow and lovely computer.
july 25 - day 207 - drummer boy
july 26 - day 208 - fashion show
at her school, they are required to wear uniforms. a plain white, blue, or red polo-type shirt and blue or khaki bottoms ( dress, jumper, shorts, skirts ). she tried on pretty much all her clothes for us to see. luckily, i only bought her a week's worth :)
july 27 - day 209 - party
to celebrate her starting school. notice she's wearing her school uniform.
july 28 - day 210 - first day of school
she woke up quite excited for her first day of school. however, just as we were stepping out of the car to walk her into class, she says, " i'm starting to get a little nervous about going to school." as i walked out of her class that morning, i don't think i'll ever forget how terrified she looked.
july 29 - day 211 - me too, kid
only the second day and he says, " i want sister come home and play with me. "
july 30 - day 212 - still

july 31 - day 213 - somethings you just know
" mom, i think i'm a sports girl. "
" because you like dribbling? "
" no, i love dribbling. i don't know why, i just do. "
aug 1 - day 214 - hard waiting
![]()
for sister to come home. we play a lot of cars and read a lot of books. hoping to plan a few things to get him out and about.
august 2 - day 215 - breakfast in bed
as a little treat for finishing her first week of school, i let her have breakfast in my bed. however, it looks like thomas had a rough week too.
aug 3 - day 216 - change
is good, so i tell myself. is it me or does she look so much older since last sunday?
also, just wanted to say hi to everyone at the Syla Rose reunion. hope you're having a great time. wish we were there.
