"i do all my own stunts."
haha. i've always wanted to say that :)
can you believe that show was back in 1981? man, i'm feeling old.
personally, i would have loved it if my teacher wore heart shaped glasses with missing lenses.
she's reading Moose Tracks ( that should be underlined, but i don't know how to do that with this publishing system - a feature i'm looking forward to soon. ) i love that book.
tom's been working on the site and will be teaching me all the new tricks. i'm hoping to have the changes up and running within the week. hope you all will like it.
this is at k's school, where they participated in Jump Rope for Heart campaign.
of my little girl. we met with her teacher yesterday. she is doing a great job in school.
right before bed, she told us this story.
at recess, she was chasing a boy, who is in a different kindy class. a girl, who was in this boy's class, said to kayla, "you're not my friend. you can't chase with us."
kids can be mean, mine included. you hope you've loved them enough, taught them well, and equipped them with enough confidence to handle life.
but the truth is, it still hurts.
i'm learning that although i try hard to keep him from napping, he usually falls asleep when we go pick up k from school. he'll stay groggy and crabby for awhile. i generally don't like to go near him during this time, because he can be a little difficult. of course, kayla will usually go to him, try to comfort him, and make him feel better.
that little goody-two-shoe, that must be why he likes her better than me.
oh, no...i'm not bitter :)
last fall, kayla noticed that many of the neighbors don't pick up the newspapers in their driveway. so, my kids like to drive their bikes and pick up the newspapers and set them on the neighbor's front porches. i don't think the neighbors know they're doing it or even that it's being done. i kinda like that the kids are doing something nice, just because it's fun for them.
being part of our small group had really been a blessing. there are 6 couples in our small group, including us.
this weekend, there was a marriage seminar at the church. couple A had bought tickets but then had to cancel, so they gave their tickets to couple B. couple B didn't have childcare, so tom offered to watch their son so that they could attend ( i had to work on friday ). after the seminar, couple B came to pick up their son and couple C came to watch kayla and thomas for tom and i ( couple D ) so that we could go out for our anniversary ( which was last month ).
i cannot tell you how much we have been affected by the small group.
t: only boys can play the guitar, not girls.
m: why can't girls play the guitar?
t: girls (will) break it. only boys (will) not break it.
soon after telling them that we were heading up to bed, i received an important phone call that i had to take. while i was distracted, they just happen to turn on their little dvd player and start a movie.
i tell you, you give them a little, they take you for everything :)
dropping off kayla at school.
k: bye, thomas. have a good day. i'll miss you.
t: bye, sister. i MIGHT miss you.
sept 7 - day 251
his new bike.
and slightly big helmet.
i don't know why she wanted to wear long sleeves and jeans in 100+ weather.
but she's still my girl.
sept 9 - day 253
he's really interested in writing now. if you ask him what he's writing or drawing, he says it's "qrstuv."
sept 10 - day 254
i signed him up for a class with the city parks and recs. when i ask him if he'd like to join in and say jump around, he asks, " why? " his new favorite word.
sept 11 - day 255
we do homework as soon as we get home from school. so far, her favorite class is p.e. last time in p.e. the teacher had them do the crab walk up and down the gym. so now she does it at home and wants everyone to do it with her.
sept 13 - day 257
lifting weights.
i told her that in a couple of weeks, i would be going to meet with her teacher and get her report card.
k: what's a report card?
m: it tells you what grade you got in the class.
i went on to explain all the letter grades.
k: i want all A's.
m: that would be great, but i just want your teacher to tell me that you are doing your best work and that you are behaving and getting along with your friends. so if you get some B's or C's and you are doing your best work, i will be very happy with that.
k: oh, but i still want all A's.
sept 14 - day 258
i forgot to mention his other favorite thing to do.
if you order him to do something, he'll say " i can't hear you. "
so, me, giving him the benefit of the doubt, will walk up to him, look him in the face, and repeat myself.
his reply, " i can't hear you. "
sometimes, i feel like screaming, " can you hear me now? "
that little snot.
sept 15 - day 259
in school, they are already adding, subtracting, and writing number sentences up to 10.
we are still here. we are well.
tom's been reworking the computers. my email is back up and my address book is recovered. i still need to reinstall psp so that i can resize the pictures.
be back up soon.
in the car taking k to school:
t: mommy, kayla keep talking. i can't talk.
which is funny, because between the two of them, i can barely get a word in edgewise.
on tuesday morning, she came downstairs and noticed some movies and an empty dairy queen bag on the counter.
k: what's this? dq?
m: oh...yeah...dad bought that for me last night.
k: and i see movies over there.
m: yeah, we only watched one movie, though.
k: were you guys having a party after we went to bed?
m: noooo. why would we have a party without you?
k: ( with raising the roof motions ) i think you guys did. you were saying "partytime! oh, yeah!"
just happened to be taking pictures when this scene came along. i love it when this happens.
just rifling through one of her many purses.
whoa! what's this?
yes, yes, yes! one dollar!
